I love creating this tortilla pizza when I need a quick meal that features protein, fibre, and flavour. This yummy pizza is ready in only 15 minutes, perfect for quick dinners during the week. Use the oven or air fryer, and you’ll have a tasty pizza in no time!

Ingredients

Passata
I love using passata since it has a thicker consistency, and you can add whichever seasoning suits you. You can also use marinara or pasta sauce for this tortilla pizza if that’s what you have in your kitchen.

Wholemeal Wraps
Wholemeal wraps help add fibre to this dish. If you prefer other wraps, such as wheat or flour tortillas, you can use those instead.

Black Olives
Using black olives as a topping adds a slightly earthy flavour. Swap these for toppings of choice when making a wrap pizza.

Variations/ Adaptations

You can turn this vegetarian tortilla pizza into a vegan dish with a few substitutions. Use non-dairy cheese and a vegan tortilla. The rest of the ingredients are already vegan. You can also make this recipe gluten-free by using a gluten-free tortilla.

Add cooked meat as a topping if you don’t want a vegetarian pizza dish. Any variety will work as long as it’s pre-cooked. Otherwise, you’ll be left with undercooked meat on the pizza.

Topping ideas

You can add any toppings you’d like to this tortilla pizza. However, if you wish to add protein, ensure it’s cooked before adding it to the pizza. Here are some topping ideas:

  • Bell pepper bits
  • Pepperoni (or mini pepperoni)
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Mushrooms
  • Anchovies
  • Capers
  • Eggplant
  • Bacon bits

How to make pizza with a tortilla

Preheat oven 180°C

  1. Start by making the garlic paste.  Add a pinch of salt  to the minced garlic and using the side of your knife, apply pressure to form a paste and slide your knife until you achieve a smooth consistency (Image 1).
  2. Then make the sauce by adding the passata, oregano, chilli flakes, garlic paste, salt and pepper to a bowl and mix together (Image 2).

3. On a baking tray, place your wrap  and spread around 3-4 spoonfuls of the tomato sauce over the wrap.  Use a spoon to evenly distribute and spread the sauce to the edge of the wrap (Image 3).

4. Decorate with the onion and tomatoes (Image 4).

5. Then add the olives and a generous scattering of mozzarella. Add an extra sprinkle of chilli flakes if you like a little kick and a pinch of salt (Image 5).

6. Pop in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted & golden brown. Garnish with basil and enjoy! (Image 6).

How to store tortilla pizza

If you have any leftover tortilla pizza (or have made extra for lunches), put them in an airtight container. Then, reheat the tortilla wrap pizza in the oven or air fryer before eating it. You can reheat them in the microwave, but you’ll have a soggy pizza that needs to be eaten with a fork and knife.

Tips for the best result

Don’t overcrowd the tortilla pizzas
To create the best tortilla pizza, ensure you don’t put too many toppings onto each one. Since the tortillas are thinner than typical pizza crust, they don’t hold up as well if there are too many items on top. Additionally, too many toppings can lead to a soggy tortilla crust.

Use cooked meat
Don’t add raw meat directly to the pizza. Any meat like bacon or sausage must be cooked before it’s added.

Chop the veg into even pieces
If you’re using veg, cut them into even pieces so they’re easier to spread out. Additionally, cutting the veg into even pieces means you won’t have some raw bits and some overcooked bits.

Can you make tortilla pizzas in the airfryer?

Yes, you can make these pizzas in the air fryer. Use the same temperature listed in the recipe, but check them about halfway through to see their doneness.

Can any wraps be used as pizza bases?

Yes, you can use any wraps you desire. I prefer using wraps that have fibre, but plain flour wraps will work as well.

How to make pizza tortillas in the toaster?

If you have a toaster oven, you can make these easy tortilla pizzas in it. Put it on the same settings as the pizza on tortilla recipe notes, and you’re good to go. If you have a regular toaster, you will need to fold the wrap into a triangle or calzone to prevent the sauce and cheese from leaking everywhere.

Can I substitute tomato sauce for pizza sauce?

Yes, you can use tomato sauce instead of pizza sauce for a pizza tortilla. However, you may need to add seasoning to get a similar flavour, as some tomato sauce is only seasoned with salt.

Ingredients

  • 1 clove of garlic, minced (£0.39)
  • 200 ml passata (£0.60)
  • 4/5 wholemeal wraps (£1.10)
  • 40 g pitted black olives, sliced (£1.15/3)=(£0.38)
  • 350 g tomatoes, thinly sliced (£1.35/2)=£0.67)
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced (£0.15)
  • 250 g mozzarella, grated (£2.50)
  • 1 bunch of fresh basil, torn (£0.55)

Cupboard Essentials

  • 1 tsp oregano
  • Sprinkle chilli flakes
  • Salt & pepper

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C FAN

  • Garnish with basil and enjoy!
