This delicious recipe is my take on the viral Tiktok baked oats recipe. These baked oats are made with simple ingredients like a ripe banana, an egg and chocolate chips for an ooey gooey dish that doubles as a healthy, filling breakfast.

Why youā€™ll love this recipe

These baked oats are one of my favourite breakfast recipes since the ingredients are kitchen staples for most, so you likely already have everything in your pantry.

Plus, you can use leftover ingredients from this recipe for other dishes, like Mini Pancakes with Biscoff, The Best Flapjacks or Reeseā€™s Peanut Butter Baked Oats.

This baked oats recipe helps curb sweet cravings while keeping you full until lunchtime due to the fibre content in the oats. This recipe is also quite versatile; you can adjust the toppings as you see fit. Let’s dive into how to make baked oats!

Ingredients

Ingredients to

Egg
Using an egg helps add protein to the baked oats, and it helps them rise. If you’re following a vegan diet, you can use a flax egg and baking powder as a replacement.

Chocolate Chips
I prefer using semi-sweet chocolate chips for this recipe, so it’s not overly sweet. However, you can use dark chocolate or milk chocolate chips. Dairy-free chocolate chips also work great to create a vegan version.

Porridge Oats
Porridge oats are great for making creamy oat dishes, which is why I love using them in this recipe. You can also use gluten-free oats, steel-cut oats, or rolled oats, though the texture will change slightly.

See the recipe card for full information on all ingredients and quantities.

Variations/Adaptations

A few swaps will turn this baked oats recipe into a vegan dish. Use a flax or chia seed egg instead of a regular egg for these healthy baked oats. You will need to add baking powder to help the oats rise since you’re skipping the egg.

You’ll also want to swap out honey for agave, maple syrup, or brown sugar. Instead of milk, use a dairy-free alternative like oat milk, coconut milk or almond milk. Ensure your chocolate chips are dairy-free/vegan.

Make this baked oats recipes gluten-free by using gluten-free oats instead of porridge oats. Gluten-free oats usually require more liquid, so you’ll need to adjust how much milk you’re using. While most chocolate chips are gluten-free, it’s best to check that you use a brand that notes gluten-free on the package.

5. Start pouring in the blended mixture, before adding a dollop of peanut butter in the middle and a few chocolate chips/chocolate pieces (Image 5).

6. Pour over the remaining contents of the blender and scatter some more chocolate chips on top. Cook for 15 minutes and enjoy! (Image 6).

Note: Oven time will be dependent on your dish size. I used a shallow round ramekin (6 cm diameter), the cook time was 15 minutes. If you have a deeper ramekin thatā€™s smaller in width, up the cook time to 20 minutes. Just like a cake, youā€™ll know itā€™s ready when you pierce the centre of the baked oats with a knife and it comes out clean.

Tips for the best results

Donā€™t use too much liquid.
The key to great baked oats is using the correct amount of liquid. If you use too much milk, the oats may come out soggy. Too little milk is also a problem, as it can leave you with dried-out baked oatmeal.

Donā€™t skimp on flavour.
A big part of what makes this recipe so tasty and satisfying is the addition of honey, peanut butter, chocolate chips and a banana. If you skip these items, your oats won’t be as tasty. Note: If you don’t have bananas, mashed sweet potato is a great alternative that adds sweetness and a tasty flavour.

Make it a batter-like consistency.
Consistency is everything with this oat recipe. You want to ensure your batter looks similar to pancake batter before you pour it into the dish. Itā€™s a good indicator that youā€™ve used the correct amount of liquid if your mixture is the same consistency as pancake batter.

Grease the baking dish.
Rapeseed oil or melted butter will work to grease the baking dish. If you skip this step while making baked oats, they’ll stick to the dish and be difficult to eat. Always grease the baking dish for baked oatmeal recipes, as it also helps with cleanup.

Avoid removing the baked oats too early.
This baked oatmeal recipe should be fluffy and cake-like when fully done. Taking out the oats too early will leave you with a goopy or mushy recipe on the inside. Ensure you pierce the oats with a clean knife to check for doneness before removing them from the oven.

Alternate this baked oats option with other sweet breakfast choices to keep your meals exciting during the week. A few of my top sweet breakfast options include Overnight Weetabix Cheesecake with Nutella and Kinder Bueno Chocolate Mug Cake.

FAQS

Are blended oats healthy?

Yes, blended oats (like in my baked oats dish) are healthy. They provide the same nutrients and fibre found in stove-cooked oats.

Can I blend oats in a blender/ how else can I blend them?

You can blend oats in a blender for a baked oat recipe. A food processor also works if you don’t have a blender. If neither is available, you can simply mix the recipe ingredients in a bowl and follow the remaining steps. If you don’t blend the oats, you’ll have a chunkier consistency, but it will still be tasty.

How long should you blend oats for?

Most blenders can create blended oats in under a minute. This step in a baked oats healthy recipe should take about 30-60 seconds.
