- 650 g frozen fries £2.50/2
- 1 onion, finely diced (£0.15)
- 4 slices of American cheese £0.60
- Optional fresh parsley to garnish
Cupboard Essentials
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp worcestershire sauce
- 5 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1.5 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp pickle juice
- 2 tsp American mustard
Preheat your oven to 205°C/400°F.
Add your frozen fries to a parchment lined baking sheet and evenly distribute. Pop in the oven for 20 minutes, or the time stated on the packet minus 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, add the diced onion and olive oil into a pan. Season with salt and pepper and saute for around 10-15 minutes, until browned and caramelized. Add the worcestershire sauce for the final 2 minutes of cook time.
Prepare the sauce by mixing the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and pickle juice together. Season with salt.
When the fries are 5 minutes away from being done, season with salt and add the american cheese slices to the tray and pop back in the oven for 5 minutes to melt.
Top the fries with the animal-style sauce and caramelized onions. Optionally finish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley for colour.
-
Avoid thin fries: Use thicker fries to ensure they can support the toppings without becoming soggy.
-
Season fries generously: Evenly sprinkle a generous amount of salt on the fries just before adding melted cheese.
-
Drizzle sauce evenly: Pour the sauce over the fries evenly to ensure all areas are coated without excessive sogginess.
-
Serve immediately: Enjoy the fries as soon as they are cool enough to eat for the best crispy texture.
