- 12 sausages
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 pink apple, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 400 g chopped tomatoes
- Fresh parsley
Cupboard Essentials
- 200 ml beef stock
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp Worcester sauce
- 1 tbsp Branston pickle
- ½ tbsp honey
Start by adding the sausages to a large frying pan over a medium heat with olive oil. Pierce the sausage with a fork and fry for around 8 minutes, or until the sausages brown and get some nice colour.
Set the sausages aside and add the onion and apple into the pan. Season with salt and pepper and fry for around 6 minutes, or until softened.
Add the garlic and fry for a further minute, then pour the chopped tomatoes, beef stock, worcester sauce, Branston pickle, honey and sausages back into the pan.
Cook for 15 minutes over a low/medium heat. For a thicker sauce, add a cornflour slurry (½ tbsp cornflour + 2 tbsp cold water combined) into the sauce.
Top with fresh parsley, lots of black pepper and dig in!
- Make sure to brown the sausages first because it adds the best flavour and texture to the final dish.
- Feel free to build upon this recipe by adding extra veggies like peppers or carrots if they need using up.
- Taste the devilled sausages before serving and add more honey if your apples were a bit sour.
- If you need a thicker sauce, add a cornflour slurry (½ tbsp cornflour + 2 tbsp cold water combined) into it.
- I used low-fat pork sausages for this recipe.
