Quick Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting

This chocolate cream cheese frosting is smooth, pipable & super easy to make. It's the perfect topping for cakes and cupcakes!

Ingredients

  • 100 g butter ½ cup, softened
  • 250 g full-fat cream cheese
  • 300 g icing sugar
  • 50 g cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Beat the butter until pale and fluffy.
  • Add the cream cheese and vanilla essence, then beat again (don’t overbeat or it’ll loosen).
  • Sift in icing sugar, cocoa, and salt. Beat until smooth.
  • Taste to adjust sweetness or chocolate intensity, by either adding more icing sugar or cocoa powder.

Notes

  • Use block cream cheese as the spreadable versions make the chocolate cream cheese frosting way too soft.
  • Add a small splash of milk to loosen it slightly if it feels too thick. If it's too thin, add a bit more icing sugar or cocoa powder, or pop it in the fridge for 10 minutes to firm up.
  • Take a minute to sift your cocoa and sugar to stop any lumps and get a super-smooth finish. 
  • The butter should be soft but not melted.
