Easy Low Sugar BBQ Sauce

This low sugar BBQ sauce recipe is smoky, tangy & full of flavour. It’s easy, healthy, ready in 10 minutes and perfect for healthy glazes!

Ingredients

  • 100 g sugar-free ketchup
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 heaped smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 100 ml water

Instructions

  • Combine all of the ingredients into a pan over a low heat. Cook for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, the sauce BBQ sauce should have thickened nicely and the spices should have bloomed.
  • Pour into a sterilised jar and store in your fridge for up to 1 month. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Don't skip the simmer time as the spices really need to bloom and meld together.
  • Make a double batch of the low sugar BBQ sauce and keep a jar in the fridge for impromptu BBQ nights.
  • Taste as you go and adjust the sweetness or acidity to match your preference.
  • If the sauce gets too thick in the fridge, just stir in a splash of warm water to loosen it up.
