Why you’ll love this recipe

Faster – Faster than the oven, using the air fryer to make frozen garlic bread saves on time and energy.

Tastes better – Frozen garlic bread in the air fryer turns out crispier than if you were to cook it in the oven.

Minimal prep – Since the garlic bread is frozen, this is a minimal prep for this side dish that pairs perfectly with pasta dishes, salads, and soups.

I just love garlic bread, don’t you?  Something about the soft garlicky melty center combined with the crispy outside just makes my mouth water.

But I would always feel guilty about turning on the big oven and using all that energy just to cook a few slices of garlic bread for a few minutes.  It felt very wasteful.

So when I discovered I could use the air fryer, that was a game changer!  The air fryer creates the same delicious garlic bread as the oven, but because it is small, fast, and uses way less energy, I can make garlic bread with any meal and not feel guilty at all.

So if you are wondering if you can cook frozen garlic bread in an air fryer, I am here to say…absolutely!

What Garlic Bread Works Best in the Air Fryer?

For this recipe, we are going to make air fryer frozen garlic bread, and there are so many different kinds to choose from.  Did you know you can use anything from frozen Texas Toast garlic bread to a garlic frozen baguette in the air fryer?  The trick is that whatever you buy needs to be pre-sliced because most air fryers cannot accommodate a whole loaf of bread or baguette. (This helps to slice through the frozen bread)

Keep in mind that all air fryers cook a little differently and that the size of the bread slice can affect the cooking time.

Frozen Garlic Bread – I love to opt for a baguette style garlic bread as this is the best for sharing. The distribution of butter is also *chefs kiss*.

Variations/ Adaptations

  • Add cheese to the top – In my opinion, cheese makes everything better.  But especially garlic bread.  If I’m feeling extra, I like to add a bit of mozzarella and/or parmesan to the top for extra deliciousness.  However, if you do this, be sure to keep a close eye on the bread toward the end of cooking so you don’t burn the cheese.
  • Sprinkle with seasonings – A great way to change up garlic bread is to add a little seasoning.  I like to sprinkle mine with a spicy TexMex seasoning blend or some Italian herbs and spices.
  • Make Pizza – This is such a great way to make quick and easy garlic pizza.  Just add the pizza sauce and cheese to the frozen slice of bread before air frying it.  It comes out perfect every time!
  • Make a Sandwich – Adding BBQ pulled pork or chicken to a nice crispy piece of Texas Toast that has been cooked up in the air fryer is absolutely delicious!  Definitely try it!

3. Cook for 2 minutes at 375°F  (190°C), then rotate and continue to cook (facing the right way up now) for 6 more minutes. This prevents the top from burning (Image 3).

4.   Check if the butter has fully melted in the centre and remove with tongs and serve! (Image 4).

Tips for the best result

Flip it – Air fry frozen garlic bread for 2 minutes facing down, then flip it in order to get even cooking on both sides.

Separate it – Make sure there is space between the bread slices in order to cook everything evenly.  You may need to cook the garlic bread in batches.

Check it – Start by checking the bread around 3-5 minutes and then add more time if needed. Check your bread often to make sure you don’t overdo it on the crispiness.  Because then it is just burnt bread.

Slice along the lines- it’s hard to slice frozen bread, so follow the lines of the pre-sliced bread.

***Remember that not all air fryers cook the same, so it is important to figure out what works for your device.  Also, cooking times may change depending on the size and thickness of the frozen garlic bread you are using.

Leftover Storage and Reheat Instructions

More than likely, the garlic bread will not store well in the refrigerator.  The crust will lose its crispiness and could become rubbery… so I suggest eating it all at once if possible.

However, if you still want to save it, you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.  It is not recommended to refreeze frozen garlic bread after cooking.

For reheating, I suggest popping it back into the air fryer (no need to preheat) for a few minutes until it is heated through. Approximately 1-3 minutes for small pieces, and longer for larger pieces.

FAQs

Can you put foil wrapped garlic bread in the air fryer?

Yes, foil is safe to use in the air fryer.  However, your bread will not crisp up on the outside when it is wrapped in foil.  Instead, the garlic bread will turn out all softer and melty.  Which is still really good but a matter of preference.

Should I preheat before cooking frozen garlic bread in the air fryer?

It is always a good idea to preheat since it gets the element and the cooking basket hot and ready to start cooking.  Preheating will actually save you some time during the actual cooking.

Should I thaw frozen garlic bread before air frying?

There is no need to thaw frozen garlic bread before air frying it.  You should air fry garlic bread frozen because the extra moisture from defrosting it can make the bread soggy and unable to crisp up.

How long do you cook frozen garlic bread in the air fryer?

Place frozen garlic bread slices in the air fryer and cook for 5-10 minutes depending on your air fryer and the size of the garlic bread slice.  A frozen garlic baguette in the air fryer may take closer to 10 minutes.

Can I make frozen cheesy garlic bread in the air fryer?

Yes!  And it is just as quick and easy as regular frozen garlic bread.  The only suggestion I have is to make sure to check it often so the cheese does not get overcooked.
