Why you’ll love this recipe

No Thawing – On a night when there isn’t much time for thawing and cooking dinner, having a go to recipe that doesn’t need to be thawed is such a relief.

Fast Cooking – Using the air fryer instead of the oven makes the perfect baked potato in about half the time.

Hands-Off – When I am rushed or tired, it is nice to just pop the frozen baked potato in the air fryer and have it completely cooked 25 minutes later without having to do anything else but relax.

What kind of frozen jacket potatoes can be cooked in the air fryer?

McCain’s Frozen Jacket Potatoes are absolutely delicious in the air fryer.  Even though Mccain’s potatoes are normally cooked in the microwave, I love cooking them in the air fryer for that extra crispy skin.

Aldi Jacket Potatoes are another great potato you can cook in the air fryer from frozen.

If you use potatoes you have frozen yourself, you want them to be around 200g in size so they cook within the time frame of this recipe.  If you use larger potatoes, they will take longer to cook.

How long does a frozen jacket potato take in an air fryer?
An air fryer jacket potato will take around 25 minutes to cook as long as it is no bigger than 200g.

How many can go into the air fryer?
How many frozen baked potatoes fit in the air fryer will depend on the type of air fryer you have.  I can fit four easily in mine.

What if they are still cold in the centre?
If potatoes are still cold in the center, cook them 5 minutes longer.  To avoid a cold centre, air fry frozen jacket potatoes until a sharp knife can be inserted easily all the way to the center of the potato and then is easily removed with no resistance.

Variations/ Adaptations

I love to air fry frozen baked potatoes and then add toppings that make it just the way I like it.  One of my absolute favorite ways to top them is with chili con carne and cheese.  It beefs up a simple baked potato and also uses up leftover chili if I have it.

And then there is the classic loaded baked potato which has cheese, sour cream, bacon, and butter!  You can’t go wrong with a classic. Or try my delicious onion gravy poured all over!

But I have also seen things like chicken curry on a baked potato!  I think the sky’s the limit with toppings on a potato!

Tips for the best result

  • If you find they are still hard or cold in the middle, leave them in the air fryer for 5 minutes longer.
  • Add butter and cheese at the end and then put the potatoes back in the air fryer, with the air fryer turned off, until the toppings melt.
  • Use tongs to press the potatoes open so you don’t burn your fingers.
  • If using Mccain’s, and want your potatoes to cook even faster in the air fryer, follow the Mccain’s instructions for thawing the potato before air frying it.

FAQs

Are frozen jacket potatoes already cooked?

Yes, any frozen jacket potato you air fry should be pre-cooked by the manufacturer or you before freezing.

Do you have to defrost frozen jacket potatoes?

Defrosting is not necessary unless you want to reduce the total cooking time in the air fryer.

Why do frozen baked potatoes in air fryer taste better?

In my opinion, everything tastes better in the air fryer because you get that fried flavor without the fat and calories of actually deep frying.
