Why you’ll love this recipe

Easy on the go breakfast – When you are short on time and practically running out the door, these air fry frozen hash browns are the perfect “on-the-go” breakfast option.

Quick and easy to make – Instead of 25 minutes in the oven, you can make hash browns in the air fryer in 12 minutes or less! Sometimes I make one hash brown in the air fryer just for a snack because they are so quick!

No thawing required – Believe it or not, thawing is a complete waste of time in this instance because it actually can make your hash browns soggy!

Highly delicious – Just like being deep fried, these air fryer hash brown patties come out perfectly golden on the outside and soft on the inside.

What are the best hash browns to use?

One of my favorite frozen hash browns is made by McCain.  I love the way they turn out perfectly every time.  But there are loads of others you can try such as Asda, Sainsbury, Aldi, Lidl and Tesco.

How long to cook hash browns in air fryer

The beauty of using the air fryer to make hash browns is that it takes half the time of the oven. In the oven, hash browns take around 25 minutes to make.  But hash brown air fryer time is only between 8-12 minutes depending on how crispy you like them!

Variations/ Adaptations

Air fryer hash browns shredded
Frozen shredded hash browns are another type of hash brown you can try in the air fryer. They give a different texture but are just as delicious and easy to make.  But keep an eye on them.  Due to their smaller size, they cook up in about half the time!!

Air fry diced hash browns
Diced hash browns are highly versatile and delicious as well!  I love adding things like diced onions and peppers to mine to make them more of a country style hash.  Diced hash browns can also be used for more than just breakfast.  Add them as a side for burgers or roasts for something a little different.

Change up the seasonings
My favorite classic seasoning on hash browns is salt and pepper.  But you could also add some onion powder, garlic powder, or any seasoning blend you love.

Tips for the best results

  • The hash browns don’t need extra oil, but if you like them super crispy, you can try adding a spritz of oil before placing them in the air fryer.
  • Season the hash browns while they are still hot and fresh out of the air fryer, not before.
  • Make sure you preheat your air fryer in order to get crispy hashbrowns and not soggy ones.
  • Flip them half way through the cooking time so they are crispy on all sides.
  • Always air fry hash browns from frozen.

Serving Suggestions:

My favorite traditional way to eat hash browns is with eggs.  Whether I am having an omelet or scrambled eggs, a little hash browns and bacon on the side is the perfect breakfast.

But you could also get creative.  Since hash browns are just fried potatoes, they can easily go with something like Chili con Carne, Frozen Burgers in the Air Fryer, or a steak.

Why are my hash browns soggy after air frying?

If your hash browns are soggy, there are a few things you can try to fix the problem.

  1. Make sure you preheat the air fryer before adding the frozen hash browns. If you place the frozen patties in the air fryer before it is preheated, they will begin to thaw while the air fryer heats up; causing excess water and soggy hash browns.
  2. Be sure the hash browns are frozen (not thawed) when you air fry them or again, there may be excess water that causes sogginess.
  1. Make sure the frozen hash browns are arranged in one layer with no overlapping or stacking since this can cause moisture to get trapped and cause your hash browns to be soggy.
  1. Be sure the temperature is at 400℉ (200℃ ) or above when cooking.

Leftover Storage and Reheat Instructions

When storing leftovers (if you have any!) store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

It is not recommended to refreeze items that have previously been frozen.

To reheat, the best method is to use the air fryer.  Place the cold hash brown patty in the air fryer at 350℉ (180℃ ) for 5 minutes or until heated through.
