What is knorr spinach dip?

Knorr vegetable spinach dip is a classic party appetizer made with Knorr’s vegetable recipe mix, which adds a flavorful blend of herbs and spices.

What is in this Spinach dip recipe from Knorr?

It’s typically combined with ingredients like chopped spinach (I’ve used frozen and thawed for the best texture), sour cream, mayonnaise, and sometimes water chestnuts for added crunch. Personally, I like to skip the water chestnuts to make this knorr veggies dip  more accessible cost-wise and flavor-wise.

The result is a creamy, savory dip that pairs beautifully with bread, crackers, or fresh veggies. Its quick preparation and rich flavor make it a favorite for gatherings and potlucks.

Ingredients

The main ingredients that make this Knorr Spinach Dip recipe fantastic are the following:

Knorr vegetable mix
Thanks to the mix of dehydrated vegetables like carrots, onions, leeks, and celery, along with a blend of spices and seasonings, this adds a well rounded flavor the creamy dip. If you can’t find this one exactly, you could use the Knorr vegetable soup sachet as a replacement.

Sour cream
The acidity in sour cream perfectly balances the creamy, rich flavours in this knorr vegetable dip.

Frozen spinach
Using frozen spinach rather than fresh yields the perfect texture for the spinach dip. With fresh spinach,  it can be a bit too chunky and it’s harder to combine with the dip.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Variations/ Adaptations

Add worcestershire sauce – Some people love the umami boost that this adds to the dip. I like to leave this out to ensure that the Knorr vegetable dip recipe is kid friendly, but if you’re only serving it to adults then it’s a great addition.

Add spices like cumin, cayenne, or paprika to shake things up- This recipe isn’t spicy at all, so if you want to increase the heat then feel free to add some spices or a dash of your favorite hot sauce. Bonus points if you dry fry the spices to bloom them!

Make it dairy free- If you’re serving vegans, you can switch to dairy-free alternatives. Unfortunately though, the Knorr vegetable mix does suggest that the packet ‘may contain milk’ so be sure to check in with your guests before serving!

How to make Knorr spinach dip

  1. Thaw the spinach by placing it in a microwave safe bowl, covering it with boiling water, then microwaving it for 2 minutes on high (Image 1).
  2. To a separate bowl, place the mayonnaise, sour cream, chopped spring onions, chopped parsley, and Knorr vegetable mix (Image 2).

3. Mix the creamy ingredients, onions, parsley, and Knorr seasoning together in the bowl well (Image 3).

4. Drain the spinach using a sieve or colander. Be sure to squeeze the excess water out with your hands (Image 4).

Tips for the best result

  • Make sure the spinach is very dry by squeezing out all of the excess moisture after thawing. This prevents the dip from separating/forming a bad texture.
  • Season with lots of pepper and adjust the seasoning with salt if necessary. The Knorr vegetable mix already includes lots of salt so you may not need to add more.
  • If using a bread bowl:  line the inside of the bread with plastic wrap or us a bowl inside the bread before adding dip so the bread doesn’t get soggy and can be eaten later with the dip.

Serving Suggestions

Vegetables: Serve with crisp carrot sticks, celery, bell pepper slices, or cucumber rounds for a fresh and crunchy option.

Bread: A big trend with this recipe is hollowing out a sourdough loaf to create a bread bowl- this is really fun and definitely wows your guests! Or you could offer the dip alongside sourdough slices, baguette rounds, or crusty artisan bread.

Crackers: Pair with buttery crackers, whole-grain options, or seeded crisps for a satisfying crunch that complements the creamy dip.

Storage Instructions

Refrigerator: If possible, make this knorr spinach recipe ahead of time to allow the flavors to really get to know each other. This could be up to 4-5 hours before serving.

Freezer: I wouldn’t freeze this recipe due to the mayonnaise and sour cream- it could split in the freezer which would result in a bad texture/ flavor.

Recipe FAQs

Does frozen spinach have to be cooked for dip?

No, just thawed in boiling water.  If you are using fresh spinach, then you would want to wilt it using steam before adding it to the dip.

Can I use fresh spinach?

If you want to use fresh spinach I would recommend blanching the spinach in boiling water for 2 minutes. Then rinse with cold water and squeeze all the moisture out. Roughly chop, then add to the knorr vegetable dip!

Why is my spinach dip watery?

You may have not drained/ squeezed enough of the moisture out of the spinach before combining it with the other ingredients.

What liquid can I use to thin spinach dip?

You could add a splash of milk or cream to loosen your dip.

This spinach dip with Knorr takes 5 minutes to make and is bursting with flavour. It's creamy, delicious and simple.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sour cream (£0.99)
  • 1 cup mayo (£0.35)
  • 8 ounces frozen spinach (£1.50/5)
  • 2 spring onions, thinly sliced (£0.55/4)
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives/ parsley, finely chopped (£0.55/4)
  • Juice of a quarter/ half a lemon (£0.30)
  • 1 packet of Knorr vegetable recipe mix (£0.90)

Method

  • To a large bowl, add the frozen spinach and cover with boiling water. Cook in the microwave for 2 minutes on high.
  • Drain the spinach in a sieve, then rinse with cold water to cool. Squeeze the spinach in your hands to remove the excess moisture.
  • In a bowl, combine the sour cream, mayo, spinach, spring onions, fresh chives, lemon juice and Knorr Vegetable recipe mix. Stir to combine, then add top dipping bowl.
  • Top with additional spring onion and an optional swirl of extra virgin olive oil. Serve with your favourite veg/crackers and enjoy!

Notes

  • Dry the Spinach: Thoroughly squeeze out excess moisture from thawed spinach to avoid separation and maintain a good texture in the dip.
  • Seasoning: Use plenty of pepper to season the dip and adjust salt as needed, keeping in mind that the Knorr vegetable mix already contains a significant amount of salt.
  • Bread Bowl Tips: If using a bread bowl, line the inside with plastic wrap or place a bowl inside the bread to prevent sogginess and allow for later enjoyment of the dip with the bread.
