Of course you can! Reheating a burrito is a quick and easy way to get the flavors you love without doing all the work of cooking the meat, flavoring it, and wrapping the burrito.
But there are many different burritos out there and therefore many different ways of reheating them. For instance, if your burrito is a frozen burrito from the supermarket, then you will want to reheat it differently than if it was freshly made with all the toppings like lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guacamole and avocado.
***Before you begin any reheating method, if your burrito has any ingredients that should remain cold, such as lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guacamole or avocado, you will want to unwrap your burrito and try to remove those ingredients since they will not be very good hot.
I have found that the best way to reheat a freshly made burrito is in the oven. This method really keeps the integrity of the burrito’s flavor and texture intact. The inside remains juicy while the outside gets a nice crisp. The only downside to this method is that it takes some patience since you must reheat for around 20 minutes.
The oven method works best whether your burrito is homemade, from Chipotle or even a breakfast burrito with eggs.
When reheating a leftover refrigerated burrito, It is ideal to remove any ingredients that should remain cold such as lettuce, tomato, or avocado before warming up the burrito.
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 177℃ (350℉)
Step 2: Wrap the burrito in foil if it is not already wrapped in foil.
Step 3: Place on an oven safe dish or pan.
Step 4: Bake for 15-25 minutes (depending on the size of the burrito) or until hot in the middle. (you can check by cutting into the center with a knife and feeling to see if it is hot.
Step 5: Remove and serve.
To reheat a frozen burrito, use the same steps from above, just increase the temperature to around 205℃ (400℉) and bake for 20-30 minutes.
To save on time, you can move your frozen burrito to the refrigerator 24-48 hours ahead of reheating it.
Winner winner, burrito dinner. It is fast, and instead of a rubbery wrap, you will get a nice crispy wrap with perfectly cooked insides. One thing to consider is that the outside will heat up and cook faster than the inside. So be sure to keep an eye on it. Again, remove any ingredients that should remain cold like lettuce, tomato or avocado.
Step 1: Preheat the air fryer to 175℃ (350℉).
Step 2: Wrap burrito in foil unless you want a fried, crispy outside…then forego the foil.
Step 3: Place burrito in the basket.
Step 4: Cook for 3-7 minutes or until the center is hot. You’ll need to increase the cook time depending on the size of your burrito.
Step 5: Remove and serve.

I love using my air fryer for super quick meals! Some of my favorite recipes are Easy Diced Air Fryer Potatoes, Frozen Steak in the Air Fryer (Cooked Perfectly!), and Healthy Air Fryer Zucchini Fries.
One of my favorite dinners to make are pan fried soft tacos on the stove. So I knew that reheating a burrito in a frying pan would give the same great flavor and crunch.
The outside of the tortilla gets a nice crispness while the inside gets hot without getting dried out. Again, try to remove any ingredients that should remain cold like lettuce, tomato and avocado.
Step 1: Remove any wrappings like foil from the outside of the burrito.
Step 2: Add 1 tsp of oil to the frying pan.
Step 3: Place the burrito in the frying pan over low to medium heat. (Lower heat will give the inside time to warm up without cooking the outside too fast.)
Step 4: Place a lid or overturn a similarly sized frying pan on top of the pan with the burrito. This will help lock in the heat and moisture.
Step 5: Flip the burrito when the first side is browned, about 3-5 minutes depending on the size of the burrito.
Step 6: Re-cover the burrito and cook on low to medium heat until the middle is heated through.
Step 7: Remove and serve.
The toaster oven is like a mini oven. So you would use the same method as the oven when reheating your burrito. Preheat the toaster oven to 177℃ (350℉), wrap the burrito in foil and place it in the toaster oven to heat through for 15-25 minutes. Remember to remove any cold fillings like lettuce, tomato, or avocado.
Can you reheat a burrito in a sandwich maker?
What a great idea! So I had to try it out. And yes! It works! Though it is a bit messy. But messiness aside, the sandwich maker (sandwich press) did give the burrito a great crunchy exterior.
My tip would be to make sure the wrap is very tight before placing it into the sandwich maker. You could also try scooping out some of the inside filling in order to make it fit into the sandwich maker a little easier without squishing the insides out.
Cook until hot in the middle.
If you absolutely have to use the microwave, I want to give you a few tips for the best outcome. While the microwave is not the ideal way to reheat a burrito, I had to put it on the list because it is fast and there are a few techniques you can use when reheating a burrito in the microwave to achieve better results. One way is by wrapping the burrito in a wet paper towel, and the other way is by covering it with another plate. Read below for more info.
Refrigerated Burrito (leftover burrito)
Step 1: Place a wet paper towel around the burrito.
Step 2: Place burrito on a microwave safe dish.
Step 3: Microwave for 30-90 seconds depending on the size of the burrito. (Check for doneness in the center by cutting into the burrito and feeling if it is hot.)
Step 4: Remove and serve.
Reheating a frozen burrito in the microwave is a super fast way to get a delicious burrito ready to eat.
When you reheat the burrito in the microwave, there are two different ways you can start. The first is by wrapping the burrito in a wet paper towel and then placing it on a microwave safe plate. The moist paper towel helps keep the edges of the burrito from drying out.
The second, and what I like to do, is place the burrito on a microwave safe plate and then turn another plate or bowl upside down and place it on top of the burrito. This method also keeps the moisture in and around the burrito so it does not get dried out.
Regardless of which way you prepare your burrito, the next step is to put it in the microwave and cook it for 30-90 seconds depending on how big the burrito is. Check that the burrito is done in the middle by cutting into it with a knife and feeling the center.
Looking to complete this meal with a fabulous side dish? Some of my quick side favorites are The Crispiest Halloumi Fries, Easy Cauliflower Cheese (No Flour or Butter!), and Jalapeno & Chickpea Salsa Salad (chopped salad).
Yes, as long as the burrito is less than 5 days old, it is safe to eat.
For 3-5 days.
I recommend removing as much of the lettuce as possible before reheating since the lettuce can get a bit slimy.
Yes, just increase the heat and time as shown above.
Like any ingredient that should remain cold, I recommend opening the burrito and removing as much of the sour cream as possible before heating it up.
