Ingredients

Ingredients to make eggs with feta laid out on a pale blue background and labelled.

Feta Cheese – Crumbled feta cheese provides a delicious tangy, creamy flavour to this feta eggs recipe. This viral feta fried eggs recipe will also work well with goat cheese or a salty, creamy, meltable cheese.

Eggs – You can use any type of egg for this feta cheese with eggs dish. If you’re on a tight budget, consider using the most affordable carton of eggs to keep the price for the meal as low as possible.

Mini Wraps – I’ve added mini wraps to this feta and eggs dish, so it’s more filling. You can also use bigger tortillas, though it may change the servings per person as you’ll likely want to add a bigger portion to each tortilla.

Variations/ Adaptations

This feta cheese and eggs recipe is already vegetarian-friendly, but you can turn it into a vegan-approved dish with a few swaps. Use scrambled tofu (tofu mixed with seasonings and nutritional yeast) or tofu chunks instead of eggs. You can also replace the feta cheese with a dairy-free version. Lastly, double-check that the wraps you’re using are vegan-friendly.

These yummy feta eggs can also be eaten on a gluten-free diet with a simple swap. Use gluten-free wraps or tortillas instead of regular wraps and you’re good to go!

How to make feta fried eggs

  1. Start by adding a little drizzle of rapeseed oil into a non-stick pan over a medium/high heat. Next, add a ring of crumbled feta into the pan, approximately the size of your mini wrap (Image 1).
  2. Next, crack your egg into the centre and increase the heat slightly. Cook until the whites are firm and the yolk is still runny (Image 2).

3. Use a spatula to scoop up the crispy base and place each egg onto a separate wrap (Image 3).

4. Top with a drizzle of hot sauce, a sprinkle of salt,  chives and coriander. Enjoy! (Image 4).

Note: Try to ensure there aren’t any huge gaps between the feta when forming the ring, this will prevent the egg whites from spreading too far.

Tips for the best result

A non-stick pan is essential. Anytime you’re working with melted cheese, like these feta cheese eggs, it’s best to use a non-stick pan. This type of pan ensures it’s easier to scoop the eggs/feta cheese out of the pan. It also helps create an easier cleanup after making these Tiktok eggs.

Use a good-quality cheese. Since this crispy eggs dish only uses a few ingredients, the flavour of the feta cheese is more apparent. Create the best-tasting dish by using high-quality cheese.

Don’t overcook the feta eggs. The feta cheese can burn quickly in this crispy feta fried eggs recipe, causing a not-so-pleasant flavour. As soon as the eggs are ready, scoop them up and put them in a wrap. Avoid leaving them in the pan for too long.

Top the pan with a lid. If a runny egg yolk doesn’t fit your tastes, add a lid to the pan to help you create over-medium eggs. This method cooks the eggs with steam, so they’re done more quickly than in an uncovered pan.

FAQs

What does feta cheese go with?

Even though feta cheese has a bolder taste than other cheese types, it is quite versatile. You can pair feta with watermelon, pasta, potatoes, salads, and a fried egg (like in this feta eggs dish). This cheese works well with fresh fruit, veggies, Mediterranean dishes, and Italian recipes.

What is feta?

Feta is a type of Greek cheese which is typically made from sheep’s milk. Some types of feta are made from a combination of sheep and cow milk. This cheese has a creamy, salty, tangy taste. It’s a cheese which is made by brining, not cooking.

Feta is typically sold in a block and has a crumbly texture, which makes it easy to use as a topping for items like salads and pasta dishes.

Is this recipe healthy?

This feta eggs recipe is relatively healthy – it has a good amount of protein from the feta and eggs, healthy fats from the egg yolks, and carbs due to the wraps.
