Can you air fry crumpets?

A few common questions for this recipe are, “Can you air fry crumpets?” and “How to cook crumpets in air fryer?”. To start, yes, you can make crumpets in the air fryer. They crisp up just as nicely as in the toaster. Plus, since they’re cooked flat, you can add tasty toppings before air frying them.

Once you have your desired toppings on the crumpets, pop them in the air fryer for about 5 minutes at 200°C. Add any final touches (like garnishes), and enjoy!

The ingredients that make these Air Fryer Crumpets irresistible are the following:

Crumpets:
These are the base for this recipe. You can use any pre-made crumpets that you like.

Marmite:
This is the key to bold, flavourful air fry crumpets. You can also use Vegemite for a similar effect if you prefer a bolder taste.

Cheddar:
I find cheddar pairs well with the other flavours in this recipe. Feel free to experiment with other types of cheese, like mozzarella or muenster.

See the recipe card for full information on all ingredients and quantities.

Variations/ Adaptations

If you’re not a marmite fan or are craving a sweet breakfast, there are plenty of variations for these air fryer crumpets to try!

  • Use different cheese: I’ve included cheddar in this crumpet in air fryer recipe, but you can use any cheese you like. A few of my favourites include muenster or mozzarella.
  • Make it vegan: Use vegan crumpets and vegan butter/cheese to turn this into a vegan and dairy-free recipe.
  • Change the toppings: Shake up the flavours of these crumpets by using toppings like eggs and cheese, bacon, pre-cooked sausage, etc. You can even turn the crumpets into an Italian-inspired dish with marinara sauce, mozzarella, and Italian spices. Or, enjoy a sweet version with Nutella, strawberries, and sliced bananas (cook the crumpets first, then add the toppings after airfrying).
  • Add some heat: Once the crumpets are out of the air fryer, add a few red pepper flakes or hot sauce for a kick of heat.

Tips for the best result

  • Defrost the crumpets first. If frozen, defrost the crumpets by putting them in the fridge the night before. This step will help cut down on the time it takes to make air fryer crumpets.
  • Enjoy them right away. This crumpets air fryer recipe is best enjoyed right from the air fryer. Once they cool slightly, enjoy them for a tasty meal.
  • Feel free to experiment with toppings. As mentioned, you can use many toppings for these crumpets. Feel free to use the ones I listed above, or experiment with your own mixture.
