Why this recipe works

This Tiktok inspired baked oats recipe couldn’t be easier to whip up. You can make the batter in under 1 minute and then the oven does all of the work for you. The addition of nutella is a twist that I haven’t seen in the usual tiktok baked oats. It provides the gooiest center which melts perfectly in the oven. With 41g of protein, it’s the perfect way to start the day! Chocolate is a great motivator to get out of bed.

Ingredients

Oats

Any standard rolled oats work best here.

Nutella

It wouldn’t be a nutella baked oats recipe without nutella. Although if you have a nut allergy or don’t have nutella, any chocolate spread will work well here.

Egg

This helps to bind all the ingredients together & also adds protein!

Protein Powder

Aside from adding protein, the protein powder adds the chocolatey richness to the cake element of the baked oats. I used chocolate whey protein from My Protein.

Honey

If the sweetness from the protein powder isn’t usually enough for you, you can add a little splash of honey into the blender along with the other ingredients.

Baking Powder

Adds a fluffiness to the baked oats and also allows the cake to rise.

Chocolate Chips

If you wanted to reduce the calories you could omit these, but they add the extra chocolatey hit that takes these oats to the next level.

How to make baked oats

PREHEAT OVEN TO 175°C

Add the oats, oat milk, protein powder, egg, honey (optional) and baking powder into a blender.

Honey, baking powder, protein powder, milk and an egg around a food processor container ready to mix. Blend the ingredients until smooth.

Nutella baked oats mix blended in the food processor and in the jar.

Pour in half the blended mix into a ramekin and then add a dollop of nutella into the centre and spread slightly to ensure it will be submerged.  Then pour over the remaining half of the blended oats and  a sprinkle of chocolate chips.

Tips for the best results

  • If you have a wide/shallow ramekin like mine, when adding the nutella into the blended oat mix, make sure you spread it slightly so that it’s not a big dollop with a lot of height. You want the nutella to be submerged when it bakes for the best gooey centre.
  • Enjoy straight out of the oven for the centre to be nice & runny.

Other toppings you could add

  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries
  • You could do a peanut butter/nutella combo
  • White chocolate chips
  • Brown sugar

FAQ

I don’t have a blender, how can I make these?

You could combine the ingredients together with a whisk, which would give you more of an oat cake vibe which is equally delicious, just different in texture. Or alternatively you could buy oat flour (it is more expensive though).

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced blender that’s great quality, I use the Ninja Blender which is amazing.

How long to cook baked oats?

Oven time will be dependent on your dish size. I used a shallow round ramekin (6 inches diameter), the cook time was 12 minutes. If you have a deeper ramekin that’s smaller in width, up the ocok time to 15+ minutes.

Can I make these ahead of time?

This baked oat recipe is best enjoyed as soon as you bake them. This is because you want the blended oats to be warm and freshly baked for that gooey center.
