Why youโ€™ll love this recipe

Iโ€™m always a lover of breakfast in the airfryer. Itโ€™s quick, simple and energy efficient. In particular, you should make this frittata in the airfryer because:

  • Quick and Easy: The only active prep time for this recipe is prepping the ingredients to stir together before you throw it all in your cake tin. This takes less than 5 minutes!
  • Versatile: I love the flavor combination of the ingredients Iโ€™ve provided in this recipe, however air fryer frittatas are amazing to use leftover veg in the fridge. Itโ€™s a customizable base that you can use to incorporate any of your favourite veg, cured meats, cheeses etc!
  • Great for Meal Prep: With the added cottage cheese as a secret ingredient, this recipe is high in protein whilst still being super satiating. I love to whip up this frittata airfryer for breakfasts throughout the week as meal prep. Enjoy hot or cold to mix it up!

What makes a frittata different from an omelet?

An omelet is cooked over a higher heat in a frying pan with typically no time in the oven.

A frittata is cooked over a lower heat, sometimes starting on the hob but usually cooked primarily in the oven. Or in this case, an airfryer!

Ingredients

Ingredients to make the air fryer frittata laid out on a pale blue background and labeled with arrows.

The main ingredients that make this Air Fryer Frittata recipe fantastic are the following:

Eggs
Integral to any frittata recipe! I use a slightly lower quantity of eggs due to the use of cottage cheese, which adds volume and texture to the frittata.

Cottage Cheese
You can use full fat or half fat cottage cheese, depending on your preference.

Sliced Ham
I love the salty burst of flavor with the addition of sliced ham, however you could also use bacon, sliced chorizo, or leave out if you want the recipe to be vegetarian!

See the recipe card for full information on all ingredients and quantities.

Variations/ Adaptations

Less Fat: To reduce the fat in this recipe, you could use low fat cottage cheese and use 3 eggs and 6 egg whites instead.

Vegetarian: Omit the ham and either add in more veggies or an additional cheese like cheddar.

Protein options:  Other proteins that I love to add to my airfryer egg frittata are turkey sausage, diced cooked chicken, chicken sausages, smoked salmon, bacon, cheddar, the list goes on! As mentioned above, this air fryer breakfast is super versatile.

Make them individual: If you want to reduce the cooking time and have ready made portions, you can use a muffin tin with the egg mixture. I wouldnโ€™t call this a frittata though!

How to make an air fryer frittata

  1. Boil the spinach in boiling water for 1 minute, then strain and rinse in cold water and set aside (Image 1).
  2. Mix the eggs and cottage cheese together well using a whisk, then add the salt, pepper, peppers, spinach, ham, and spring onions and incorporate all by mixing together (Image 2).
Two step by step photos with the first showing boiled spinach that has been set aside in a colander and the second showing egg and cottage cheese mixed together and seasoned with salt and pepper.

3. Once combined, pour the egg mixture into a cake tin that has been lined with parchment paper and sprayed generously with oil. The spray the top of the egg mixture with a bit of the spray oil (Image 3).

4. Air fry the egg mixture at 350ยฐF/180ยฐC for 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the tin. Let rest for 5 minutes, then remove and slice to serve. Garnish with fresh chives and enjoy! (Image 4)

Tips for the best result

  • Season the airfryer frittata egg mix with salt and pepper before cooking, this will ensure itโ€™s well seasoned throughout.
  • Donโ€™t overcook it: Depending on the shape and size of your dish, the cook time will vary, which is why Iโ€™ve written 15-30 minutes. After 15 minutes, check your frittata by poking with a knife in the centre. It will be ready when the frittata is firm and the knife comes out clean.
  • Keep it from sticking: This is why we cook the airfryer frittata with parchment paper. I like to lightly grease my parchment paper with oil spray to prevent any sticking. The resting period also allows the egg to release from the paper.

Serving Suggestions

Honestly, this frittata can be eaten as a complete meal since it is high in protein and full of veggies. However, if you would like to add a starch along side, here are a few that I love:

Meal prep, Leftover Storage and Reheat Instructions

Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. For meal prep, I like to evenly slice the whole frittata to ensure that everything is evenly portioned throughout the week.

Freezer: Wrap individual slices in plastic wrap and place into a container. Freeze for up to 2 months. The double wrapping and placing in a container acts as double protection to prevent freezer burn.

Reheat: Warm in the air fryer at 300ยฐF (150ยฐC) for 3โ€“5 minutes or until heated through.

This delicious and easy air fryer frittata is the perfect airfryer breakfast, which also works great for meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 120 g finely sliced ham roughly chopped (ยฃ1.98)
  • 6 eggs ยฃ1.50
  • 3 mixed peppers finely diced (ยฃ1.59)
  • 3 spring onion thinly sliced (ยฃ0.69/2)
  • 80 g spinach ยฃ1
  • 300 ml cottage cheese ยฃ0.79
  • Fresh chives finely chopped to serve (ยฃ0.60/2= ยฃ0.30)

Cupboard Essentials

  • Spray of oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Method

  • In a bowl, cover the spinach in boiling water for 1 minute. Drain in a collider and rinse in cold water. Squeeze the excess moisture out of the spinach and set aside.
  • Combine the eggs and cottage cheese by whisking until incorporated. Season generously with salt and pepper, then stir the peppers, spinach, ham and spring onion into a bowl.
  • Place parchment paper into your cake tin, then spray with oil. Pour the egg mix into the tin and pop in your airfryer basket. I like to spray the top with a little oil too for the best colour.
  • Cook at 350ยฐF/180ยฐC for 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of your tin. Leave to rest for 5 minutes, then remove from the tin and slice into portions. Top with fresh chives & enjoy!

Notes

  • Avoid overcooking: The cooking time can vary based on the size and shape of your dish, which is why I recommend a range of 15-30 minutes. After 15 minutes, test the frittata by inserting a knife into the center. Itโ€™s done when the frittata is firm and the knife comes out clean.
  • Prevent sticking: To avoid sticking, we cook the air fryer frittata with parchment paper. I like to lightly coat the paper with oil spray for extra insurance. Allowing the frittata to rest after cooking helps the eggs naturally release from the paper.
  • Season the egg mixture: Make sure to add salt and pepper to the egg mixture before cooking. This ensures that the frittata is evenly seasoned throughout.
